The Learning Hub
Our Learning Hub is a dedicated space designed to support students who may feel overwhelmed by their emotions or need a break from challenging situations. It provides a calm, low-stimulation environment where children can regulate their emotions, whether they are feeling anxious, angry, upset, or excited. This safe space is particularly beneficial as busy classrooms with diverse student needs can be overwhelming for some of our pupils. This space offers an opportunity to manage emotions in a structured, supportive setting.
The Learning Hub also includes therapy rooms where specialized interventions such as speech and language therapy, as well as literacy support, take place. Additionally, there is a sensory room designed to provide comfort for students who may be dealing with overwhelming feelings, whether positive or negative. The sensory room offers soft items like cushions, blankets, and teddies for comfort, while other resources such as push, pull, or squeeze objects are available to help students release pent-up tension.
To ensure that the Learning Hub is used effectively, a referral system is in place. When referring a child, teachers must first consider several factors, such as whether the child’s voice has been heard, if changes in seating or classroom setup could help, and if the child’s behaviour is impacting their learning or others. A visit to the Learning Hub should be for an agreed time, with a note explaining the reason and intended outcome. All incidents must be logged on CPOMS to ensure future referrals are processed appropriately.
Our Learning Hub is an essential asset, providing emotional and academic support while fostering a safe, inclusive learning environment for all students.
