History Club

Last year, in History Club, we focused on the life and death of one of England’s most controversial kings – Richard III.  We heard the story of how he became king and acted out his alleged murder of the princes in the Tower.  We then found out about how the Tudor family had spread rumours about Richard to make him appear even worse than he probably was.

In 2012, Richard’s skeleton was discovered by archaeologists – under a car-park in Leicester!  History club watched a documentary which explained how a team of scientists worked to find evidence to prove whether or not it was really him.  We learned all about forensic archaeology, DNA and facial reconstruction.  Our budding historians have gained valuable skills and an improved understanding of the how the archaeological process works.

“I had no idea that Richard the Third was buried in a car-park!” said Didi.  “Also, I didn’t know people were sometimes buried inside a church rather than outside in the ground.”

“We loved finding out about the story behind what happened!” exclaimed David, Gadi and both the Eli’s.

“I got suffocated with that pillow!” added Libby.

“History Club is so creative and gory!” grinned Shoshi.
